VW 1300S 1974
2006-11-25
I got the bug home now. So there it sits in the garage, doing nothing while I
work on my bus...
So this is my next project. It currently resides in a cold barn almost an hour away, but I plan on bringing it home sometime soon.
This is a 1300S from 1974. If I understood it right, it means it has the same pan as the autostick beetle's from 1968-70, with IRS and the old 1966-70 balljoint front-end. It was not the most common combination (atleast not exported to Sweden) and this was also badged GT-Beetle (in England?) and was the fastest (not fast!) production beetle thanks to being lighter then the 1302/1303 super beetle with MacPhearson struts.
This car in particular has lived most of it's life on Gotland, and has almost no rust-issues at all. It's original color is red, and in it's current state almost nothing is in working order. The car has current "MOT" but the engine is busted, the brakes don't work, the windshield is cracked, the drivers seat is loose and so on.... I hope to drive this car in the spring of 2007, with a powerful engine and upgraded suspension and brakes. I will keep the beat-up exterior finish, except for the shiny wheels.
